Coalescing from Portland's thriving music scene, The Wild Wood is a high-energy string band drawing from Bluegrass, Folk, Punk, Gypsy Jazz, and more.  They resonate with that part of us which is rooted in a simpler way of life, while delighting us with dynamic arrangements, emotional vocal harmonies and virtuosic solos.

This constellation of accomplished young stars (including 2 national champions - mandolin and twin fiddles) has been attracted toward one another by the affinity they share with traditional Folk music, it's re-emergence and evolution.  The core band is comprised of mandolin, guitar, bass and fiddle, and can be expanded to include a twin fiddle and/or a drummer.

Josiah Payne (Mandolin, Vocals) has toured nationally with bands such as The Hot Strings, Jared Meese and the Grown Children, and Wayward Vessel. Though he is most noted for his mandolin playing (he has won both the National and Rockygrass mandolin contests), Josiah is dynamite on anything with strings attached to it. In addition to The Wild Wood, Josiah has just completed a solo album and performs as a duo with Belinda.

Kian Dye (Fiddle, Vocals) The youngest member of the band, Kian is a gun for hire on the fiddle and mandolin, recently placing 3rd in the National Fiddle Championship, as well as winning the National Twin Fiddle Championship with our friend and honorary band member, Wilhelmina Frankzerda.

Michael Gaskill (Guitar, Vocals) Has toured and recorded with Left Coast Country and Brown Chicken Brown Cow, and also performs with The Road Sodas. He enjoys running up steep things and smashing capitalism.

Belinda Underwood (Bass, Vocals) is an accomplished jazz bassist and vocalist, a prolific solo folk artist, and a belly dancer. She is a highly sought after side-woman about town and has performed with many of the Northwest’s best jazz and folk musicians.
